Scotland's young talent in full bloom.
"Stuart Donaldson's photographs of bare mountains echo his distinguished teacher, Thomas Joshua Cooper, but they are none the worse for that. When there are technical skills that can be taught and the teacher has vision, that too, can be passed on." The Scotsman, Tuesday 22 June 2004.
Stuart spent four years under the guidance of Professor Thomas Joshua Cooper at Glasgow School of Art. Cooper founded the department of photography at the art school in 1982. Cooper is recognised world wide as one of the foremost contemporary artists of land and sea and is included in Debrett's People of Today, Who's Who In The World. Cooper was taught by the world famous American Landscape pioneer, Ansel Adams, who is recorded in world history for his artistic achievement through the medium of photography.
Says Stuart, "My pictures themselves record my physical, emotional and spiritual relationship with the land. Conveying the visual stimulation on the conscious and sub-conscious mind, expressing the emotions and moods felt whilst looking at the land. When I am up there working, I am in a private and intimate space, and these spaces and the time I spend up there, become absolutely conclusive moments of clarity in my life."
Stuart won the Roger Ackling prize for 2004.
Stuart has recently returned from a six month tour of the Carribean and is now off for a year to China. We hope to be adding images from these locations very soon. |
